LILITH

He walked into her territory
To tame her wild passions.

Cloaking herself with modesty,
She shattered his nakedness.

She owes him faith and equality,
And not piety or blind obedience.

She can never be his Eve,
For he will always be Adam.

I AM TWICE-BORN

I am the first baby of my mother.
Why do they call me a newborn baby?

My mother is in her late sixties.
I am halfway through my life.

I celebrated my birthday last November.
Why so much fun and fuss over the birth now?

Am I a “Brahmin” to be twice-born?
I was always located in the backward regions.

Mother ignores you at times, they said.
So they conceived me in their minds.

They fed me with slogans and strikes.
Am I the first or the twenty ninth baby?

Yesterday I was just one among my siblings.
Today I am left alone in a political labour room.

They are playing divide and rule game on me.
That is a colonial game but I am not a colony.

Is this my rebirth or first birth? How old am I?
After all age is just a number. I am all the same.

We are Responsible

Our ways to shield womanhood
Compartmentalized womanhood.
We left her alone in a closed world
With all doors open to catastrophe.
She was under constant threat
But dreamt of our helping hand.
Barbarianism within our minds
Once  stepped into her world.
We heard her cries in utter pain
Our passiveness easily ignored it.
We celebrated her helpless woes
For the sake of media activism.
We politicized her painful silence
In the name of women's rights.
We who could not protect her virginity,
Failed to save her innocent life too.
Endless rapes on her femininity
Continues to be the soul of our activism.
We preach divinity of her martyrdom
And practice sheer male chauvinism.
Stop this nonsensical hypocrisy
And be open to admit our sins.
Let us refine our malicious soul
To not to sorely confess again
That "we are responsible"

Alone I Sing for You

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
With fire inside
And smile outside

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
With destroyed past
And dignified dreams

Alone I sing for you

I mean you all
Who dares to walk alone
Along the road not taken

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
With no basic rights
In this celebrated democracy.

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
Who lacks freedom
Within this free world.

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
Whose voices are still unheard
In the midst of noisy crowd

Alone I sing for you
I mean you all
The unprivileged majority
Within the privileged minority.

Alone I sing for you
I mean , for you all
I sing the songs of silence
Born out of  the woes of voiceless
